CREATING GOLFERS and BETTER GOLF

2019

Welcome to 2019 - Happy New Year
THE SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE LEAGUE

Sudbrook Moor's Simon Green is to continue a 3rd Year of Office as Captain of the club's Scratch "A" Team in the South Lincolnshire Matchplay League.  Simon's experienced and pragmatic leadership has ensured that he and his squad have tenaciously performed in the 2018 season in the 2nd Division, 3 years after their promotion from the 3rd Division.  The future looks even more positive for 2019, with team members and incoming new members consistently reducing their golf Handicaps.  They will meet Belton Woods, Boston, Burghley Park and South Kyme, between April and August, on a Home and Away basis.
PLEASE SIGN UP ON THE LOBBY NOTICEBOARD FOR THE 2019 SQUAD.  THE DATES ARE LISTED AND YOUR IMMEDIATE RESPONSE IS NEEDED

ROUND 2 - LINCOLNSHIRE INTER-CLUB
SCRATCH SINGLES MATCHPLAY
THE BRAMLEY TROPHY

Having not been further than Round 2 before, Plan “A” was to successfully play into Round 3 of Lincolnshire’s County Inter-Club Knock-Out.   Being drawn to meet long-term friends from a club that has grown up with you in friendlies and League matches, makes it rather more difficult.   Sudbrook Moor were drawn in late May to meet Kirton Holme Team of 3, at Home, in the J.F Bramley Scratch Singles Trophy. A sustained and exciting evening evolved, bathed in beautiful warm sunshine.   The Home Captain, Simon Green, out first, had a run of birdies on the front 9 to get ahead with a 3 hole lead against Shane Rowett.   Simon’s juices were flowing and held on for a stunning result of 3 and 2.   Nigel Corby took on Kirton Holme Team Captain, Rene Sweere, and also geared up for early dominance of their match.    After 15 holes, in a hot position of 3 Up, Nigel needed just one more hole to clean up and mirror Captain Simon’s result.   Rene was having none of it, and took the 16th , 17th and 18th to halve their encounter.   The gallery knew that Sudbrook Moor’s 3rd player, Rod Clay, had not been up from the 2nd hole.   However, well out of touch with what had happened to the first two pairs, Rod was sticking at it.   3 down with 4 to play.   Hitting a splendid tee shot close to the 15th flag, which unsettled opponent Mark Atkins, Rod walked to the 16th tee; 2 down, 3 holes to play.   Making his strategic move, Rod won the 16th with another magnificent key shot; 1 down, 2 to play.   He took the 17th to go all-square and then finished off the 18th , with a lot more excitement.   Misplacing his drive in the left rough, and no view of the green, Rod recovered with a miraculous iron shot, and won the final hole with 2 superb putts.   For hero Rod, his vital, poignant 1 Up result sealed the deal, a home victory of 2.5 – 0.5 .   Now for Round 3, or the Quarter Finals, meeting Spalding Team of 3, an advantageous draw again, to be played on Home turf.

The entries to both the Elsham Foursomes and Bramley Singles County Matchplay Championships have been made.

The Elsham Foursomes - team of 6 -
We played at HOME versus Belton Park G.C. on Friday 20th April and finished 4 Down.
1st:Simon Green with Dan Reidy, LOST 4 DOWN 2nd:Keith Maclachlan with Rod Clay WON 3 UP, and 3rd:Sash Mirhadi with Nigel Corby LOST 3 DOWN     The Lincolnshire Inter-Club Scratch Matchplay, The Elsham Trophy, is underway.  A tough format of Foursomes, alternate drives and alternate shots, played to the 18th  green by all three matches, generates a 54 hole aggregate result. No one could have written a more exciting and sociable script, on the most beautiful of April evenings, with the fairways lined with a gallery of local golfers. Sudbrook Moor’s “A” Team Captain, Simon Green, in his second year of Office, struck the first ball for the Home Team in the opening match against Belton Park last Friday.  Partnered by Dan Reidy they met lead pair of Jake Craddock and Steve Mitchell.  It was closely fought over the front 9 holes, but Belton Park denied the Home pair much success over the finishing holes, for the visitors to putt out on the 18th  green to go 4 Up.  The 2nd  partnership of Keith Maclachlan and Rod Clay are to be hugely applauded for turning the state of play into a much more positive position for the Home Team, with their victory of 3 Up, against Bruce MacFarlane and John Kirkup.  Keith’s and Rod’s harmonious partnership and really excellent golf were inspiring. Excitement soared, with the running score now only One Up to Belton Park.  The gallery awaited the approach of Match number 3, and despite Sudbrook Moor’s Nigel Corby and Sash Mirhadi having dominated much of their early encounter with Belton Park’s Captain, Jack Diment and “Plus 2” player Will Hopkins, a well executed close to this match brought the visitors through 3 Up.  The aggregate result was a win for Belton Park, 4 Up.  Congratulations to Belton Park on the way forward into Round Two and the summer encounters across the county.

The Bramley Singles - team of 3 - A bye in the 1st Round.  In the 2nd Round  we have been drawn to play HOME versus Kirton Holme G.C. on Tuesday 22nd May.

TEAM OF 3 : Captain Simon Green, Nigel Corby and Rod Clay
